Did you know that today is #WorldFashionDay?

Though there’s still much to be done in the industry, we’re proud of the steps being taken towards sustainability, equity, and inclusion as we have always believed that fashion could be hanressed for tremendous good. In its best form, and in recent years, fashion has produced economic prosperity in pockets across the globe, giving a platform and voice to the often undererved and overlooked. This new wave of fashion has been propelled by so many designers, creative directors and entrepreneurs that are change agents in their own right. At Shifair, it’s been an honor to chat with many of them along our journey of reimagining how to get their product to your doorstep from some of the most challenging, (albeit inspiring) places to manufacture.

Though their craft and conscious decision to be a part of defining a new luxury - one that focused on uplifting communities and sustaining cultural history through innovative design, sourcing and partnerships - they are paving a way for a better world and future.

Today’s #FashionFridaywithSF pays homage to that ingenuity:

Hailing from Kibera, David Avido is no stranger to the adversities that came along with growing up in a neighborhood deemed ‘Africa’s largest slum'. But that hasn’t stopped this young designer. He is proof that glass ceilings are meant to be broken. A window into his world shows us that scarcity can masterfully shape creativity and craft our authentic expression. Looks like Avido is known for its signature wax print bomber jackets and has been worn by the likes of reggae artist Chronixx and Jamaican artist Koffee to name a few. If rhythm is what gave us @lookslikeavido, it is surely flow that has put this designer’s name and brand on the map.
